Ways to Make a Difference at Mercy
365体育备用网站Participation is vital to our success, we welcome all gifts, large and small. We also welcome the gift of your time in the many volunteer opportunities that are available. Here are a few of the giving options that invite you to invest in Mercy and make a difference in the lives of young women. .
365体育备用网站At Mercy, we work with passion to keep tuition affordable. You may not know that there is a gap between our tuition and what it actually costs to educate a Mercy girl. You can help maintain the affordability of tuition and our standing as one of the most excellent, Catholic, all-girls schools in the country.
365体育备用网站Please consider a gift to support the Annual Fund for Excellence and impact the life of a Mercy student today. Your tax-deductible donation to the Annual Fund for Excellence enables us to cover expenses beyond what tuition allows, including crucial building improvements, educational program enhancements, and tuition assistance.
The President’s Circle honors those donors who have shared in our mission through an annual leadership gift of $10,000 or more to the Annual Fund for Excellence. Mercy counts on these leadership gifts to provide many enhancements to our programs and campus. These leadership donors are honored annually at the President’s Circle Luncheon held in October. All individuals, families or corporations making a leadership gift are invited to be members of the President’s Circle and attend the luncheon.
President’s Circle members are an elite group of committed donors who agree to invest their ideas, creativity and expertise for the betterment of our school. President’s Circle members model how one generation can help the next. They demonstrate to their fellow alumnae, parents and friends that giving to Mercy is an excellent investment - one that directly results in educating and creating Catholic women who lead and make a difference in the world.
As a member of the President’s Circle, your philanthropy can help define Mercy and inspire others to support our school’s mission.

Alumnae, parents and friends who remember Mercy High School in their wills and estate plans are welcomed into the William and Catherine Callaghan Legacy Society. Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, was orphaned in 1798 and later invited to live in the home of family friends, William and Catherine Callaghan as a companion to Mrs. Callaghan until Mrs. Callaghan's passing in 1819. Upon his death in 1822, Mr. Callaghan bequeathed his entire estate to Catherine. This sizable inheritance allowed Catherine the means necessary to purchase the "House on Baggot Street" that eventually led to the founding of the Sisters of Mercy.
We acknowledge our Callaghan Legacy Society members through a complimentary annual luncheon. We will also make note of our members’ generosity in publications such as our MOSAIC magazine and Annual Report. Of course, donors have the option of remaining anonymous if desired.
Bequest - 365体育备用网站Giving through a bequest allows you to maintain your assets throughout your life and support Mercy High School in the future. If you would like to support the education of young women at Mercy High School after your lifetime through a bequest, please ask your estate planning attorney to add this suggested wording to your will or living trust:
“I give to Mercy High School, Farmington Hills, Michigan, the sum of $_________ or _________ percent, residue and remainder of my estate for its general purposes.”
365体育备用网站Your bequest may be restricted to a specific purpose, or perhaps you wish to memorialize a family member by establishing a fund to provide tuition assistance or support for a particular Mercy program. Please discuss your desires with us so that we can assist you in drafting sample endowment language and naming opportunities.
IRA - Normally, a distribution from your IRA is taxed as ordinary income. However, federal tax legislation enacted at the end of 2010 allows you to make a direct gift from your IRA to Mercy without the distribution taxed as income to you. This law applies to IRA distributions up to $100,000.The IRA charitable rollover law may provide a very good charitable giving vehicle if you are age 70 1/2 + and take the standard deduction rather than itemize your deductions on your US tax return. The law may also reduce your state income tax and the tax impact on your Social Security benefits, as well as affect deductions determined by income, such as medical expenses. Your IRA could be considered a special fund for distributions to Mercy without normal consequences of reporting additional taxable income. This must be from your IRA, not a 401(k) or other retirement plan. Consult with your tax advisor.
Please take a moment to prayerfully consider the various ways to support Mercy through an endowed gift. In all endowment scenarios, gifts are made to the principal; monies are invested, and only the income on the investment is available for expenditure.
The Mercy Endowment Fund furthers our mission by providing funding for scholarships and financial aid, faculty and staff enrichment, technology, and special projects. This fund ensures that Mercy has a permanent source of money for its future growth. Help us secure the future of Mercy High School by making a gift to our Endowment Fund.
You also have the opportunity to create an endowed fund in the support of a particular department or program at Mercy High School. In the summer of 2016, the Nancy Malinowski Endowed Fund for Athletics was established and the income on the investment of that fund will be used to support the extensive athletics programs available to Mercy students. Similar funds may be created for a particular academic department or extra-curricular program. An endowed fund may be established with a minimum gift of $25,000 and funded in a variety of ways: a single gift; a series of gifts over several years; or a planned gift from the estate of the donor. All donors who create an endowed Fund will be invited to join the William and Catherine Callaghan Legacy Society.
A named scholarship may be established in memory or honor of a particular person. Donors in the past have chosen to honor family members, a beloved Mercy Educator, among others. Similar to an endowed fund, a scholarship can be established with a minimum gift of $25,000 and funded in a variety of ways: a single gift; a series of gifts over several years; or a planned gift from the estate of the donor. This special group of donors will be welcomed as members of the Circle of Mercy and invited to our annual Circle of Mercy Luncheon every spring. Donors who establish endowed scholarships or make a long-term commitment to financial assistance may be able to meet the specific student that they are sponsoring.
